What can make myasthenia gravis worse?

Through experience, myasthenia gravis reacts in different areas in different people. In general, early detection and early treatment are the most effective treatment, and some patients may experience exacerbation with time, or even the possibility of myasthenia gravis crisis. Many conditions can exacerbate myasthenia gravis, including infections (such as colds, pneumonia, or gum abscesses), fever, high temperatures, excessive exertion, and emotional stress. Some female patients have noticed an increase in myasthenia gravis symptoms during menstruation, as well as during pregnancy and childbirth. Both low and high thyroid function can worsen myasthenia gravis; electrolyte loss from the use of diuretic drugs and frequent vomiting, and stress from surgery or radiation therapy can also worsen myasthenia gravis and may even precipitate the onset of myasthenic crisis.
