There are three main reasons for shoulder and neck pain, as follows: First, due to the continuous fatigue and cold in the shoulder joint and cervical spine, for example, when sitting, the muscles around the shoulder joint will be in a fatigued state due to the lack of support for the elbow joint, which leads to the suspension of the elbow joint. If the head is lowered for a long time in a sitting position, the muscles in the cervical spine will also be in a state of fatigue, which will lead to strain and inflammation of the shoulder joint and the muscles in the cervical spine, which will stimulate the peripheral nerves and cause pain. This condition is often accompanied by a cold, and after the cold the muscles become more tense and the metabolites produced accumulate more, thus causing the pain to become more pronounced. It is also possible that the neck, elbow and shoulder joints are not sufficiently warmed during sleep at night, which can cause the pain to be more pronounced. Secondly, excessive strain on the shoulder joints and cervical vertebrae, such as pulling and lifting heavy objects with the head down for a long time, may cause damage to the muscles of the whole shoulder and cervical vertebrae and lead to painful symptoms. Third, neurogenic cervical spondylosis is caused by lesions in the cervical spine, resulting in pressure and irritation of the nerve roots in the cervical spine, which may lead to symptoms such as radiating pain in one side of the cervical spine, upper limbs and shoulders.
