How to take care of the oral hygiene of infants and children?

It is important to protect milk teeth during early childhood, when infants are at 6 to 12 months of age, they begin to have milk teeth. By 2 1/2 to 3 years of age, they have a complete set of teeth. At about 6 months of age, the baby’s lower central incisors begin to erupt. After the first tooth erupts, the mother should clean the baby’s teeth. The method is to wash the hands first, then wrap a sterilized gauze around the second finger, dip it in saline or distilled water and scrub all the surfaces of the teeth twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. Some babies and children have the bad habit of sleeping with a bottle. This bad habit is likely to produce serious caries on the upper front teeth of infants and children. It is called bottle caries in medical science. In serious cases, the whole crown of the tooth can be destroyed, affecting the normal function of biting food and pronunciation. Besides, there will be pulp necrosis and apical lesion, which will affect the normal formation and calcification of permanent tooth embryo. In addition to the upper front teeth, the caries can involve the whole mouth teeth. The prevention method of bottle caries is very simple, including the following two steps: 1, do not let infants and children sleep with milk bottles or other sweet drinks bottles. Only feed some cool boiled water before going to bed. 2.Clean all tooth surfaces of teeth after each feeding. 3.Regular oral examination, infants should have their first oral examination when they are 6 months or one week old, and then once a year. Pay attention to the early treatment of decayed milk teeth: If the child suffers from decay, it should be treated urgently and early. Whenever there is a long holiday, there will be many parents leading their children for dental treatment in the hospital’s dental department. From the statistics of patients, most of them come to the clinic only when they have to be treated. Many parents tend to be very concerned about the early and late eruption of children’s milk teeth, but the lack of attention to the protection of their milk teeth, think that sooner or later the milk teeth will be replaced, even if “there is a hole” also do not think, in fact, this is wrong. As the chewing organ of children, the baby teeth not only chew food with teeth, but also promote the development of jawbone and teeth through chewing stimulation, which is very important for the development and alignment of permanent teeth in the future. Caries is commonly called “tooth decay” or “tooth cavity”, there is no obvious symptom in the early stage, if not treated in time, it will be unfavorable to the growth and development of children, and in serious cases, it will develop into a symptom of irritation when encountering cold, heat, sweet and acid, and cause inflammation of pulp and root tip, resulting in severe pain, and also make The chewing ability of the child will be reduced, which will affect the digestion and absorption, and at the same time, it will cause the jaw bone to be underdeveloped, which will cause the permanent teeth to be misaligned and misshapen in the future. Early treatment of tooth decay (tooth decay) is relatively simple, but if the time is missed, the treatment will be more difficult and complicated. Parents should make it a habit to take their children for oral examination regularly, and come to the regular hospital as soon as possible if they find any “cavity”. It is also recommended to have regular dental health checkups every six months or a year, which has a very good effect on dental health.
