What does glucose infusion do?

Glucose infusion can serve to replenish body fluids and energy, replenish glucose, relieve hypoglycemia, and improve hyperkalemia.
1. Replenish body fluids and energy: in case of massive loss of body fluids caused by various factors such as severe vomiting, severe diarrhea, etc., as well as in case of some patients who cannot eat normally after operation, intravenous glucose infusion can be used to replenish body fluids and energy.
2. Supplementing glucose and relieving hypoglycemia: glucose is an important source of energy for the tissues of the body, especially the nervous system and hemoglobin must rely on glucose for energy supply to maintain the stability of the nervous system and the ability of oxygen delivery; for hypoglycemia patients, when there is coma, shock, etc., glucose injection can be applied appropriately to relieve the symptoms of hypoglycemia.
3. Dextrose injection can effectively reduce the blood potassium concentration, however, it only transfers extracellular potassium ions into the cells, and the total potassium ion content in the body remains unchanged.
Glucose infusion should be performed under the supervision of a doctor.
