Fishweed is pungent in flavor and slightly cold in nature. It belongs to the lung meridian. It has the efficacy of clearing away heat and detoxification, eliminating carbuncle and draining pus. It is often used in the treatment of lung carbuncle (fever, vomiting pus and blood phlegm) spitting pus, phlegm-heat asthma and cough. It is not recommended for cold deficiency and yin external ulcers.
Fishweed can be made into compound fishweed syrup with Banlangen, forsythia, honeysuckle and other drugs. It has the effect of clearing heat and detoxification, and is often used to treat sore throat caused by external wind-heat. It is not recommended for diabetic patients. The use of medication should be under the guidance of a professional physician, and should not be taken on its own, in order to avoid delaying the condition.
