Location of gluteal muscle injection

The location of intramuscular buttock injection is located on the posterior and lateral side of the buttocks, and this area can be confirmed in two ways: first, by drawing a horizontal line from the apex of the gluteal cleft to the left and right, and by making a vertical line from the highest point of the iliac crest on one side to this line, the two lines intersect to divide one side of the buttocks into four quadrants, and the outer upper quadrant is the location where intramuscular injection can be performed. Secondly, by connecting the anterior superior iliac spine with the tip of the coccyx, the upper third of this line is the location where intramuscular injections can be performed. The reason why this location is chosen for intramuscular injection is that this area is covered by abundant muscles, but there are no important blood vessels or nerves, so intramuscular injection here will not damage important structures and can make the drug reach the inner muscle quickly and have better absorption.
