Treatment of uterine fibroids without surgery

Uterine fibroids are the most common benign tumors of the female genitalia, and studies have found that about 20% of women between the ages of 30 and 50 have fibroids, and the disease has been on the rise in recent years. Although uterine fibroids are benign tumors, most of the symptoms are not obvious, but if they are not detected in time, they can endanger many organs of the body and can cause infertility, so early prevention and treatment is very necessary. Uterine fibroids can be treated surgically or conservatively. The doctors mostly consider the treatment plan according to the patient’s age, fertility requirements, clinical symptoms, size and location of fibroids. Young infertile women with fibroids can be treated conservatively through medications and other treatments if they have no obvious symptoms and the size of the uterus is less than the third trimester of pregnancy, but usually many patients are no longer suitable for conservative treatment when fibroids are found. Then surgical treatment has to be considered. For most of the patients with fibroids, the word “surgery” is very difficult for them to accept. Not only are they afraid of the pain associated with surgery, but they are more worried about hurting their uterus. So, is there a way to treat fibroids without surgery? The answer is of course yes. Uterine artery embolization (UAE) without surgery is ideal for young, infertile, especially anemic patients, and more suitable for married, multiple uterine fibroids and adenomyosis. What is Uterine Artery Embolization? In this operation, the doctor only needs to insert a special catheter into the femoral artery at the root of the patient’s thigh to the tumor blood supply artery, apply embolization agent to block the tumor blood supply and cut off the tumor nutrition supply, so that the fibroids will undergo ischemic changes and shrink, become smaller or even be absorbed. It can not only control the growth of myoma, reduce the amount of blood loss during menstruation, and gradually correct anemia, but also preserve the normal physiological functions of uterus and ovaries. It is widely favored in the treatment of gynecological diseases because of its features such as no opening, no scars, remarkable efficacy and quick recovery. Scope of uterine artery embolization: In addition to the treatment of uterine fibroids and postpartum hemorrhage, uterine artery embolization can be widely used in a variety of obstetrical and gynecological diseases, such as late postpartum hemorrhage, placenta abruptio, implanted placenta abruptio, ectopic pregnancy (cervical, uterine horn, fallopian tube), placenta praevia in midterm pregnancy, placenta praevia in full-term pregnancy, gynecological hemorrhage that has been ineffective with conservative treatment, uterine fibroids, uterine adenomyosis, functional uterine bleeding during menopause, gynecologic malignancies such as cervical cancer, endometrial cancer, ovarian cancer, etc.
