Occult pain under the right rib cage and back pain: mainly consider liver diseases, mostly seen in hepatitis, cirrhosis, and eventually liver malignancy, with pain under the right rib cage, along with back pain, pain manifested as nausea, vomiting, persistent dull pain, sometimes accompanied by weight loss, anemia, anorexia, and other signs of systemic failure. It may also be a biliary disease, commonly associated with cholangitis and bile duct stone attacks, manifesting as right-sided subcostal pain, along with chills, fever, yellowing of the skin and sclera, and sometimes the pain may radiate to the right back. Commonly various types of cholecystitis and malignant tumor of gallbladder can also cause pain under the right side of the rib cage, while radiating to the right shoulder and right back, which can be clearly diagnosed by ultrasound examination. Or herpes zoster, a pressure point along the rib cage caused by the herpes zoster virus, seen as the presence of herpes in the skin, with severe pain, mostly knife-like pain.
