Poor eye closure in infants may be caused by imperfect brain development, or it may be caused by other reasons such as hyperthyroidism, eyelid trauma, and congenital developmental malformations.
1. Imperfect brain development: If the infant’s brain is not well developed, the contraction of the orbicularis oculi muscle innervated by the facial nerve may be abnormal, and then the patient may have poor eye closure. This is a normal physiological phenomenon, no need to take measures to treat, usually after the child grows up the symptoms will gradually improve.
2. Hyperthyroidism: Hyperthyroidism is considered to be caused by excessive secretion of autonomous thyroid hormone and excessive iodine intake. Patients will have nervousness, mania, fear of heat and excessive sweating, palpitation, shortness of breath and other manifestations.
In addition, patients may have symptoms such as inability to close the eyelids, widening of the eye fissures, and decreased transient eye movements. Therefore, infants with hyperthyroidism will have the symptom of sleeping with their eyes not closed tightly.
3. Eyelid trauma: Eyelid trauma may be caused by sharp cuts or contusions on the eyelid area, and patients may have eyelid skin lacerations, eyelid edema, eyelid hemorrhage and other symptoms. If the infant has eyelid laceration, it will be manifested as poorly closed eyes during sleep.
4. Other: Infants with poor eye closure are also considered to be caused by congenital developmental abnormalities, facial nerve palsy and other causes.
There may also be other reasons for the baby’s poor eye closure, it is recommended to go to the hospital in time, improve the examination to clarify the cause of the disease, under the guidance of the doctor to give targeted treatment or treatment.
