What to do if your baby has hard ear wax

If there is hard earwax in your baby’s ear, you can suck it out with a negative pressure suction device or clip it out with tweezers if it is flaky or crumbly. If it is a relatively large and hard earwax that blocks the external ear canal and causes hearing loss or inflammatory irritation causing pain, do not forcefully remove it as the ear pain is obvious when using tweezers. It is best to repeatedly soak the outer ear canal with 5% sodium bicarbonate, filling it up for 15 minutes at a time, drying the outer ear canal after 15 minutes and soaking it again at one hour intervals, repeatedly for three consecutive days, the earwax will be soaked into a mud-like consistency. If you go to a hospital ear clinic, you can clean the outer ear canal by sucking it out with a negative pressure suction device or by performing cerumen flushing. The cleaned outer ear canal is very clean, and after cleaning it once, you usually do not need to clean it again for 2-3 years.
