Breast milk jaundice does not have a “quick fix”, it usually subsides on its own without special treatment, and delayed breast milk jaundice can be treated by suspending breast milk according to the situation.
1. Normal breast milk jaundice: Breast milk jaundice usually occurs in exclusively breastfeeding or mainly breastfeeding newborns, usually in the first 3~5 days after birth jaundice, about 2 weeks to reach the peak, and then gradually subside. Generally, no treatment is needed and breastfeeding can be continued.
2. Delayed breastfeeding jaundice: serum bilirubin <257μmol/L(<15mg/dl) does not need to stop breastfeeding, ≥257μmol/L suspend breastfeeding for 3 days, during the period of suspension of breastfeeding, mothers need to suckle regularly.
The mother should pay attention to the changes of jaundice and monitor the level of transcutaneous bilirubin. If the jaundice subsides too late or recurs after subsiding, the mother should consult the doctor promptly.
