A broken foot is a very common injury in daily life, playing soccer, basketball, going down steps, etc., a little carelessness can lead to a broken foot, which medically we call “ankle sprain”. It is no exaggeration to say that every one of us will encounter different degrees of broken feet in our lifetime. In fact, the treatment after the first broken foot is the most important, if handled well, the ankle joint can be completely repaired without leaving sequelae, but if not handled properly, it may leave “roots of trouble”, and later there will be habitual broken feet and stubborn pain in the ankle joint, and later will be secondary to arthritis. After a broken foot, if the swelling is very obvious, abnormal pain, activity can not be, it is recommended that the following process to deal with: First, the first should go to the hospital orthopedics or emergency department to check to see if there is a fracture or ankle ligament damage. If there is a fracture or ligament damage, then we should take appropriate treatment according to the degree of fracture and ligament damage; if not, then continue to follow the process below. Second, the affected limb will be elevated, elevated plane should be higher than the position of the heart, so as to facilitate the return of blood to the lower limb, can relieve the swelling and pain of the foot. Lower limb padding is also delicate, you can put the entire pillow under the calf evenly padded or at the heel of the pad, rather than simply a support point to support the calf stomach, which is not conducive to blood flow back. Third, cold compresses, within 48 hours after the injury to take cold compresses, the purpose of this is to reduce blood flow to the lower extremities, reduce internal bleeding, reduce swelling. Use an ice pack for about 15 minutes each time, with an interval of 1-2 hours. Put a layer of towel under the ice pack to prevent local skin frostbite. Fourth, ankle elastic bandage, the role of the elastic bandage is also to promote swelling, no protection and support for the ankle joint, so it is not recommended to wrap the elastic bandage down to the ground activities. It is recommended that the elastic bandage be applied 24 hours after the injury. Fifthly, rest and avoid movement on the ground. After the injury and during the recovery period, do not continue to walk forcibly, as this will aggravate the injury and swelling of the ankle joint. Sixth, apply hot compresses. 48 hours after the injury, you can replace the cold compresses with hot compresses, and use hot towels to apply hot compresses. Seventh, moderate ankle activities, when the swelling is reduced, you can exercise the ankle joint in a non-weight-bearing state, the range of activity is not too large, gradual, this can not only promote the reduction of swelling, but also exercise the surrounding muscles. Eighth, drugs, you can take some oral dehydration drugs and non-steroidal drugs, which can play a role in reducing swelling and relieving pain; as for the external plaster, it is not recommended, because the local skin condition is poor after trauma, and the external plaster can aggravate the local skin damage. For ordinary broken feet without fracture and ligament damage, after the above treatment, the swelling can be reduced in about 1 week, after which the activities can be gradually increased and gradually transitioned to normal activities.
