What is the pain in the lower part of the chest?

Pain in the lower part of the chest, probably in the subxiphoid position, is mainly caused by diseases of the upper gastrointestinal tract, such as acute or chronic gastritis, gastric ulcers, and duodenal ulcers may cause it. The pain may appear or worsen if the stomach is fasting, and may be relieved after eating. If the pain is acute and sudden, it may be caused by bleeding or perforation of the upper gastrointestinal tract. The pain may also be caused by heart disease, commonly angina pectoris or acute myocardial infarction, and may be accompanied by chest tightness, palpitations or pain with a crushing sensation, and in severe cases, there may be insufficient blood supply to the brain, resulting in dizziness, weakness of the limbs, and cold sweats.
