Can post-encephalitis epilepsy be treated?

Patient Question: Old softening foci on the right frontoparietal. Blood perfusion is markedly reduced. Roughly normal EEG. Is it epilepsy , falls easily. Sometimes the mind goes blank. Doctor’s reply: Traumatic epilepsy is likely. It is recommended to do a long-range video EEG to locate the epileptic focus. If the epileptogenic focus is clear, surgical removal of the softening focus can cure the epilepsy. Patient Question: We did a 12-hour video EEG which is approximately normal EEG, does surgery have any effect on function. Doctor’s reply: There are risks associated with surgery, just as there are risks associated with flying in an airplane, which is the safest form of transportation. The specific risks will be determined by looking at the head MRI. Surgery is an active treatment, and the removal of the epileptic focus will eliminate the need for long-term antiepileptic drugs.
