What are the early signs of cirrhosis

Most patients in the early stage of cirrhosis are asymptomatic or have mild symptoms, and may only have symptoms such as fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea and anorexia, and vague pain in the right upper abdomen. In the early stage of cirrhosis, the liver still has a certain compensatory ability, the patient’s general condition is relatively good, and the clinical symptoms are atypical. The main symptoms may include fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, anorexia, and pain in the right upper abdomen, etc. Ultrasound examination shows that the liver is hardened, the liver elasticity is decreased, and the spleen is mildly to moderately enlarged. Liver function tests were normal or mildly abnormal. Cirrhosis is often caused by further development on the basis of chronic hepatitis, at this time, hepatocytes are widely degenerated and necrotic, residual hepatocytes appear nodular regeneration, the normal hepatic lobular anatomy is destroyed, and intrahepatic pseudofollicles are formed. With the aggravation of the disease, the patient’s liver function decreases progressively, and a series of symptoms such as epigastric distension, bleeding gums, jaundice, spider nevus, splenomegaly and ascites will appear. Patients with early cirrhosis must go to the gastroenterology department of the hospital as soon as possible. Treatment is actively carried out for the primary disease, and antifibrotic drugs and liver-protecting drugs are used at the same time to slow down the progress of the disease.
