Armpit odor is the axillary odor, commonly known as fox odor, is due to the axillary sweat glands secrete odorous substances or organic substances secreted by the sweat glands through the bacterial decomposition of the release of special odor. Common in young adults, more common in women, hereditary. Because the sweat glands in adolescence by the gonadal influence before the beginning of activity, so the axillary odor more with the development of youth, gradually aggravated, to the peak of young adulthood, to the elderly can be reduced. Some patients can be complicated by axillary hair ringworm or more soft cerumen (commonly known as earwax) in the external ear canal. Patients with this disease are distressed by its pungent odor, especially in summer or after sweating, the odor is heavier, bringing a lot of inconvenience to patients’ life, work and social life, resulting in a heavy burden of thought and psychological pressure. Treatment of axillary odor is not difficult, the following treatment methods can be used: 1, topical drugs; 2, laser treatment; 3, injection sclerotherapy; 4, electrolysis therapy; 5, surgery. Surgical treatment is currently recognized as a reliable method for the eradication of axillary odor. The traditional excision and the modified minimally invasive sweat gland scraping are usually used. The traditional excision is a full excision of the axillary skin to achieve the purpose of eradication, the disadvantage is local scarring, affecting the aesthetic. In contrast, the modified minimally invasive sweat gland scraping is to scrape away the sweat glands while preserving the skin of the axilla, cutting off the ducts and eliminating the secretion and excretion of sweat, thus achieving the goal of radical treatment. The incision is small (only 1-2cm), the damage is light, the stitches are removed 7-9 days after surgery, the efficacy is good, the scar is not obvious after healing, it is a good method to cure axillary odor, especially suitable for actors, athletes and other special professionals, more beautiful young female patients accepted. In recent years, our department has used minimally invasive sweat gland scraping to treat axillary odor and achieved good treatment results. Commercially available topical medications such as Xixiang Lanxia Lu and Half Moon Qing are simple and easy to use, but the method treats the symptoms but not the root cause, and the odor reappears after stopping the medication, and it is easy to cause local skin allergies and other side effects. Laser, electrolysis, injection of sclerosing agents and other treatment methods are also used in clinical practice, the overall efficacy is poor, deodorization rate of about 50-70%, high recurrence rate, easy to leave a dotted scar and subcutaneous hard nodes, such as improper operation can damage the axillary vascular nerve and other tissues, resulting in unintended consequences. Newly, our department uses local botulinum toxin injection method for patients with mild disease, which has good effect, little pain and no scar; the disadvantage is that the effect can last about one year. Therefore, we believe that minimally invasive sweat gland scraping is a safe, efficient, less painful and cosmetically effective treatment for axillary odor at present. We welcome all patients to come for consultation and treatment.
