What does Poria look like?

Poria is flat round, oval or spherical in shape, varying in size, with brown to dark brown outer skin and crinkled texture. Poria has a sweet, light taste and flat nature, it has the effect of diuresis and seepage of dampness (promoting the operation of water to get rid of dampness), strengthens the spleen, and nourishes the heart, and can be used to treat edema, phlegm (pathological products formed by the impaired metabolism of water), diarrhea caused by spleen deficiency (diarrhea caused by the weakness of the spleen), palpitations (rapid heartbeat, often accompanied by panic), insomnia, and other symptoms. Poria is usually light gray-brown or black-brown on the surface, pinkish red near the outer skin on the cross-section, and white inside. It is spherical, ovoid, oval to irregular in shape and varies in weight. There is a thick and wrinkled skin shell outside, dark brown, soft when fresh and hard when dried. It should be noted that those who have yin deficiency and fire (deficiency of yin and essence in the body and hyperactive deficiency fire) should not take it, and those who have yin deficiency without dampness and heat, deficiency of cold and essence slippery, and deficiency of qi subsiding should take it with caution.
