Can you continue with a very high level of hepatitis C virus during pregnancy?

Hepatitis C viral load is very high during pregnancy. If liver function tests are normal, pregnancy can continue, if liver function is abnormal, it is recommended to end the pregnancy.
1. Normal liver function: Pregnant women with a high viral load of hepatitis C alone can continue the pregnancy, but amniocentesis should be avoided to minimize the exposure of the newborn to the mother’s blood. Shorten the delivery time as much as possible during spontaneous delivery to prevent damage to the birth canal and reduce the chance of contaminating the baby with blood carrying the virus.
2. Abnormal liver function: If the virus replicates in large quantities and destroys liver cells, resulting in obvious abnormal liver function or even liver failure, it is not recommended to continue the pregnancy.
Pregnant women with very high levels of hepatitis C virus during pregnancy should be advised to consult the Department of Infectious Diseases in a timely manner to improve liver function, abdominal ultrasound and other tests, and decide whether to continue the pregnancy under the evaluation of a specialist.
