Does artificial joint replacement extend a person’s life span?

The main purpose of artificial joint replacement is to eliminate pain, improve quality of life, and improve mobility. After artificial joint replacement, people can carry out normal daily life without pain and engage in their favorite hobbies, and at the same time, with the improvement of mobility, there will be a corresponding improvement in cardiopulmonary function. There are often patients with osteoarthritis who are unwilling to undergo artificial joint surgery because of various reasons, and after a series of conservative treatment, the effect is not good, resulting in a gradual decline in mobility and inflexibility, and in order to avoid falling, they live indoors all year round and do not leave their homes, and then have to undergo fracture surgery in case of a fall. In some cases, when they want to have surgery in the late stage, they are not able to tolerate it because of their declining physical condition. A study conducted by Italian scholars on the survival expectation of 3807 patients who underwent artificial joint replacement found that the life expectancy of patients over 60 years of age who underwent artificial joint replacement was significantly higher than that of those who did not. The numbers were significantly lower for patients without arthroplasty and higher for women at 84%, 75% and 58%, respectively, than for patients without arthroplasty. The treatment of arthritis with prosthetic joint replacement affects life expectancy by improving quality of life, cardiopulmonary function, and mobility.
