How long does it take to die from a rabies attack

Rabies is an acute human-animal infectious disease caused by rabies virus that attacks mainly the central nervous system and causes death within 1 week after an attack, occasionally more than 10 days. The rabies attack process is divided into a prodromal phase, excitement phase, paralysis phase, the whole generally does not exceed 1 week. The early symptoms with diagnostic significance in the prodromal phase are itching, pain, numbness and anomalous sensations in the healing wound and its innervation area, usually lasting 2-4 days; the excitement phase is highlighted by extreme fear of water, wind, episodic pharyngeal muscle spasms, respiratory distress, excessive sweating and salivation, etc., usually lasting about 1 to 3 days; the paralytic phase is when the patient enters into generalized delayed paralysis and finally dies due to respiratory distress and circulatory failure, and this phase lasts 6-18 hours. Once rabies develops, the mortality rate is close to 100%, so prevention is especially important. If bitten by dogs or cats, rabies vaccination or even immunoglobulin should be given in a timely manner.
