Is peppermint a class 2 carcinogen?

Peppermint is not classified as a Group 2 carcinogen for the time being. Class II carcinogens are categorized as Group 2A carcinogens and Group 2B carcinogens. 2A carcinogens are those with limited evidence of carcinogenicity in humans and sufficient evidence of carcinogenicity in experimental animals. Class 2B carcinogens are those with limited evidence of carcinogenicity in humans and insufficient evidence of carcinogenicity in experimental animals, or those with insufficient evidence of carcinogenicity in humans and sufficient evidence of carcinogenicity in experimental animals. Substances for which there is insufficient evidence of carcinogenicity in humans are also referred to as Group 2B carcinogens. Peppermint contains a substance called menthone, which is classified as a Group 2B carcinogen by the World Health Organization’s Agency for Research on Cancer, but the content of this ingredient in peppermint is so low that peppermint cannot be directly classified as a Group 2B carcinogen. In conclusion, although a component in mint is classified as a Group 2B carcinogen, it cannot be inferred that mint is a Class 2 carcinogen.
