Precautions regarding osteonecrosis of the jaw due to improper use of bisphosphonate drugs

Bisphosphonates such as Elan and MIGUDA are among the most commonly used drugs for the treatment of bone metastases from breast, prostate, and lung cancers, but their improper use can lead to serious complications such as osteonecrosis of the jaw. Inappropriate use refers to the long-term, continuous (once-a-month) use of bisphosphonates such as Elan and MIGUDA for more than one year, which significantly increases the risk of osteonecrosis of the jaw, especially for those patients with lower alveolar infections (gingivitis, periodontitis, etc.). Once osteonecrosis occurs, it is irreversible, i.e. there is no cure! Therefore, the correct usage is: Patients who have been using it continuously for one year, 1. Firstly, if there is painful discomfort or limitation of movement in the lower alveolar, including the temporomandibular joint, the bisphosphonate drug should be stopped immediately and the gum, periodontal and dental infections should be treated actively. 2.If there are no symptoms mentioned above, after one year of continuous use, the frequency of use should be extended to a frequency of once every 2-3 months. 3.After two years, the frequency of use should be changed to once every six months.
