Acute suppurative tonsillitis needs to be differentiated from pharyngeal diphtheria, scarlet fever, and Fanshawang pharyngitis. 1. Pharyngeal diphtheria: it can present with symptoms similar to acute suppurative tonsillitis, such as sore throat, fever, mental depression, etc., but the symptoms are milder. At the same time, grayish-white pseudomembrane can be seen in the pharynx, and diphtheria bacillus can be seen in local bacterial smear. 2. Scarlet fever: similar to acute suppurative tonsillitis, manifested by fever, chills, nausea, tonsil congestion, redness and swelling. The pharynx is congested with grayish-yellow pseudomembrane, which can be easily wiped away. A generalized rash may be present, which is characteristic, and a poplar tongue may be present. as a result of hemolytic streptococcal infection. 3. Fanshuang pharyngitis: unilateral pharyngeal pain, one side of the tonsil covered with gray or yellow pseudomembrane, rubbed away to see an ulcer underneath. Similar lesions are common in the gums, and the cervical lymph on the affected side is sometimes enlarged. Systemic symptoms are mild.
