Chances of Recovery from Drowning Brain Injury

The chance of recovery from drowning brain injury is usually related to the duration of drowning. Patients who have drowned for no more than 4~6 minutes are generally likely to recover, while those who have drowned for more than 4~6 minutes are less likely to recover.
1. Not more than 4~6 minutes: If the drowning time of the patient is not more than 4~6 minutes, and the patient is rescued by CPR in a timely manner, it is generally possible to recover, and the earlier the rescue is successful, the greater the chance of recovery. It is difficult to specify the exact recovery rate as it varies from person to person.
2. More than 4~6 minutes: If the patient drowned for more than 4~6 minutes, or did not get timely treatment, it may cause irreversible damage to the brain cells, even if the heartbeat can be restored, the necrotic brain cells can’t be restored, and the chances of a full recovery are small.
Patients are advised not to swim in waters without safety facilities and rescuers to avoid drowning.
