You can’t get your teeth done at an older age

Since entering the field of orthodontics, many patients have asked me, “Is orthodontics only for children? Is it not possible to get teeth straightened when you are older? To answer this question, I put on braces myself. Whenever a patient asks, I show them my teeth. You see, I’m 28 years old and I’m still getting my teeth fixed, so that’s your concern out of the way. We usually say that the best time to get your teeth fixed is when you are 12 years old, but we never say that you can’t get your teeth fixed after that. It does not depend on your age, but on the health of your teeth and the tissue around them. So what is the difference between adults and children, in my opinion, there are several points: First, the biggest difference between adults and children is that adults have fewer options and more limited treatment options. For example, the same small jaw, in children, we can often get good results through some functional orthodontic treatment, however, in adults, often only through surgery to achieve better results. Secondly, compared with children, adults have already set their bones, and the bones are much harder (advantage), however, the tragedy is that our metabolism is much slower; in fact, our orthodontic treatment process is a process of continuous bone remodeling, so the faster the metabolism, the faster the bone remodeling, and the direct effect is to speed up tooth movement and shorten the treatment time The direct effect is faster tooth movement and shorter treatment time. This has the second tragedy: the treatment time is longer and the cost of treatment increases. Third, compared to children, adults naturally have much higher requirements for aesthetics, not only the material must be small, but also invisible and beautiful. Alas, these days, beauty comes at a price. This also leads to the third tragedy of adult cosmetic dentistry: low cost performance. This society is a cost-effective society, we all want to spend the least amount of money to get the best results. Alas, the tragedy for adults is that they spend more money and more time without necessarily getting the same results as children. Of course, no matter what, if you are an adult in need of cosmetic dentistry, if you are willing to pay a little more hardship for beauty, a little more Money, or if you did not have the conditions as a child, but now you do, then please take a brave step and go to a professional orthodontist for a consultation, do not be “too old for cosmetic dentistry Don’t get tangled up in the question of “can’t you get your teeth fixed at an older age”.
