What is facial muscle spasm

After nearly five years of clinical research, it is confirmed that facial muscle spasm, also known as hemifacial tics, can be completely cured by surgery. The cause of facial muscle spasm is the presence of blood vessels compressing the facial nerve in the area where the facial nerve exits the brainstem, and the pulsating stimulation of the facial nerve by the blood vessels will cause increased excitability of the facial nerve and facial nucleus, resulting in frequent “discharges”, a single discharge will cause the facial muscles to twitch once, and a continuous discharge will show continuous twitching of the facial muscles, making The sustained discharge will result in continuous facial muscle twitching and deformation of the facial spasm. This indicates that the increased excitability of the facial nerve or facial nucleus is not controlled by the cerebral cortex, which corroborates that the increased excitability of the facial nerve or facial nucleus is directly related to facial muscle spasm. Interestingly, a unique “abnormal electromyographic response” was detected in patients with facial spasm when we used the neuroelectrogenic monitoring technique, and this abnormal electromyographic response disappeared instantly once the surgeon padded the blood vessels compressing the facial nerve during surgery. It was confirmed that the vascular compression was the cause of the abnormal electromyographic response and also the cause of facial muscle spasm. Therefore, the etiology of facial myospasm is clear, and through intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring, we can ensure that this etiology can be effectively addressed, and the surgical cure rate of facial myospasm can theoretically reach close to 100%. At the same time, it is highly recommended that you choose a hospital and doctor experienced in facial myospasm surgery to operate, which can guarantee the efficacy and surgical safety. This will help you to get rid of the disease and regain your confidence!
