Solid pseudopapillary tumors are also curable if treated aggressively and need to be seen as soon as possible. Solid pseudopapillary tumors are found in the pancreas, which is a low-grade malignant tumor. If it can be detected early, the tumor is not large and may be cured with surgery. Since this tumor often has a relatively intact peritoneum, the tumor can be completely removed along the peritoneum, preserving the maximum amount of pancreatic tissue. The tumor occurs in different parts of the pancreas and the surgical approach varies. If it grows at the head of the pancreas, especially if there is pressure on the biliary tract, a pancreaticoduodenectomy may be necessary, a procedure that has a greater physiologic impact. However, if it occurs in the body of the pancreas or the tail of the pancreas, the surgery is easier than a pancreaticoduodenectomy, the surgical damage is relatively minor, and the prognosis is better.
