Patients with neck and arm pain can be caused by a number of conditions. More commonly, patients suffer from cervical spondylosis, which causes pain in the area of innervation due to compression and stimulation of the nerve roots in the neck, resulting in pain in the arms and neck. In some cases, this is accompanied by decreased skin sensation in the upper extremities, as well as numbness, decreased muscle strength, and finger dexterity. An MRI of the cervical spine can be taken or an electromyography can be done to clarify the diagnosis. In addition, this phenomenon can occur if the patient suffers from a drop pillow, or if there is muscle strain in the shoulder and neck area, and if the patient suffers from rotator cuff injury, frozen shoulder, and other conditions.
