How to prevent impaired visuospatial function?

Impairment in the recognition of various properties of objects in space due to visual causes is called visual spatial perception impairment, or visuospatial dysfunction, and is one of the early symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease. Prevention of impaired visuospatial function: Primary prevention: Prevention of AD because the cause of the disease is unknown so far, some risk factors that have been mentioned in the etiology, some can be prevented and intervened. For example, prevention of viral infections, reduction of aluminum poisoning, enhancement of cultural practices, and reduction of head trauma. Secondary prevention: Since it is difficult to confirm the diagnosis of AD, early diagnosis techniques need to be strengthened and treatment should be carried out early. It is generally believed that AD is an acceleration of the aging process.Jobst et al. did a cranial CT examination once a year in elderly people with definite and probable AD and without cognitive deficits. The thickness of the middle temporal lobe was measured by those who were unaware of the clinical diagnosis. The results showed that temporal lobe atrophy was significantly faster in patients with definite and probable AD than in older adults without cognitive deficits. Therefore, it is essential to have regular examinations in this area and to give active treatment to the elderly with suspected and confirmed disease. Tertiary prevention: Although patients with AD have diminished cognitive function, they should still be encouraged to participate in daily social activities, including mental and physical activities, as much as possible. Especially in early stage patients, as many activities as possible can maintain and preserve their abilities. For example, playing a musical instrument, dancing, playing cards, typing and painting can help patients live a more enjoyable life and potentially slow the progression of the disease, as patients with severe dementia can also respond to familiar social life and familiar music.
