Summer constipation may be caused by physiological factors such as excessive sweating, or pathological factors such as irritable bowel syndrome and hypothyroidism, and can be treated by means of general treatment, medication, and alternative treatment.
1. Physiological factors: the hot weather in summer, people sweat more, which will make the body water shortage, thus the symptoms of constipation. When patients drink more water and eat more dietary fiber-rich fruits and vegetables, the symptoms should improve.
2. Pathologic factors:
(1) Irritable bowel syndrome: if the patient has too much mental stress, gastrointestinal hormone secretion imbalance, etc., then it is easy to cause irritable bowel syndrome, which will lead to the symptoms of constipation. At this time, patients should be asked to relax, eat more high-fiber food, develop good defecation habits, and give intestinal microecological agents, such as bifidobacteria, lactobacillus and other agents to correct intestinal flora imbalance and improve symptoms.
(2) Hypothyroidism: Hypothyroidism will slow down the peristalsis of the gastrointestinal tract, resulting in constipation. Patients should be advised to eat a light diet, keep a happy mood, and be given levothyroxine as a replacement therapy.
Summer constipation should be supplemented with water, and if the symptoms are severe, it is recommended to go to a specialized hospital for further examination and treatment under the guidance of a specialist.
