The perineum in a broad sense is all the soft tissue between the inner thighs on both sides of a woman’s body, below the pelvic diaphragm that encloses the lower pelvic opening. The perineum in a narrow sense is the soft tissue between the posterior end of the vaginal vestibule and the anus, also known as the obstetric perineum. The perineum is preceded by the lower edge of the pubic symphysis and followed by the tip of the coccyx. It includes the clitoris, vagina, labia majora and minora, urethra, and other tissues.
