In my outpatient work, I often ask about the usual eye habits of the children attending the clinic. I found that with the popularization of computers, more and more children like to watch CD-ROMs or play games on computers. Parents say that children like to watch cartoons, the TV plays 1~2 episodes at a time, the child is not addicted to watching, but also subject to the limitations of the broadcasting time. Many children over 2 years old start watching CD-ROMs continuously, which is a very worrying phenomenon. Using a computer, the eyes are closer to the screen than the TV, usually about half a meter. Children’s eye adjustment ability is very strong, can maintain a very long time so close to the gaze without feeling tired, that is to say, will not be like the middle-aged and elderly people look at a short time close to the things will feel tired or can not see. However, prolonged close eye use makes the ciliary muscle in the eye in a constant state of tension, and when you need to relax when looking at a distance, the ciliary muscle has no elasticity and can not be relaxed. This will appear in the distance vision loss, which is usually called “false myopia”, in the long run, will inevitably form the real myopia. At present, the prevalence of myopia in elementary school students is nearly 30%, and is constantly rising, the age of myopia is also getting younger and younger, and the children from childhood is overly sustained near eye use has a lot to do with. In addition, the parents of children are now watching TV from childhood, many are myopic, which also increases the chance of their children suffering from myopia. Children should not use computers to watch CD-ROMs, not to mention cell phone games and handheld game consoles. We urge parents to learn more about healthy eye health, give up modern life, and take your babies back to nature. Going on picnics and outdoor activities, and letting your child actively participate in games and activities can stimulate their enthusiasm and intellectual development more than passive visual enjoyment. Stay away from TV, computers and cell phones, and give your child a natural and happy childhood!
