Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis is a common connective tissue disease of childhood, characterized by chronic arthritis and systemic involvement of multiple systems, including joints, skin, liver, spleen, and lymph nodes. The disease has a certain genetic predisposition. Younger children often have persistent irregular fever and more pronounced systemic symptoms than joint symptoms, while older children or adult patients are more likely to have symptoms limited to joints, which can be relieved with treatment. This disease belongs to the category of “paralysis” in Chinese medicine. According to the clinical symptoms, it is classified as wind-cold-damp paralysis, wind-damp-heat paralysis, qi-blood deficiency, meridian paralysis, or qi-stagnation-phlegm-stasis, paralysis of meridians. Generally speaking, Chinese herbal medicine and external application have good effect on this disease. Acupuncture therapy is suitable for various types of the disease, and moxibustion therapy is suitable for cold and damp paralysis with heavy morning stiffness. It is recommended that acupuncture and moxibustion can be used in combination with medication to achieve anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects for those with more severe pain symptoms. In addition, there are the following two dietary treatments: (1) Chickpea porridge: 30g of chickpea, 15g of white rice and sugar, boil the porridge for consumption. Suitable for damp-heat paralysis. (2) papaya soup: two papaya, steamed and peeled, grinded like mud, add 250g of white honey, mix well and put in a clean porcelain storage. Drink 1-2 spoonfuls of this soup with warm water every morning to relieve pain and tendons, and it is suitable for those who suffer from swollen and painful joints in all types of paralysis.
