Red, swollen and painful ears may be caused by acute diffuse otitis externa, external auditory canal boils and other diseases, and patients can take medication and surgical treatment. 1. Acute diffuse otitis externa: this disease is caused by bacterial or viral infection. Antibiotics can be applied systemically to control the infection, such as amoxicillin; take painkillers, such as ibuprofen. Prohibit excessive mechanical friction in the local area, so as not to damage the skin of the external auditory canal. When the external auditory canal is red and swollen, a tampon soaked with 10% ichthyol glycerin can be applied locally. If the external auditory canal is swollen and oozing, a tampon soaked with 5%~8% aluminum acetate can be applied to the external auditory canal. 2. External auditory canal boils: These are caused by bacterial infection of the skin follicles or sebaceous glands in the cartilaginous part of the external auditory canal by staphylococcus bacteria. (1) Apply antibiotics to control the infection, such as amoxicillin. Take painkillers, such as ibuprofen. In the early stage, localized hot compresses or ultra-short-wave heat therapy. (2) If the local pus has not yet formed, use 1%~3% phenol glycerin or 10% ichthyol glycerin to drop on the ear, or use the above medicinal liquid gauze to put on the affected area, and change the gauze twice a day. (3) When the boil is matured, the pus head should be punctured or cut open for drainage. Use 3% hydrogen peroxide solution to clean the pus and secretion of the external ear canal. Patients with symptoms of redness, swelling and pain in the ear may also be caused by other diseases such as auricular suppurative chondritis, patients should seek medical attention in a timely manner for systematic examination to clarify the diagnosis, and follow the doctor’s instructions to standardize the use of medication and treatment.
