Symptoms of adenovirus infection in children usually start to be severe on the 2nd day. The initial symptoms of adenovirus infection usually manifest as high fever above 39°C-40°C, cough, pallor, mild diarrhea and vomiting in more than half of the patients, and abdominal distention in severe cases, and neurological symptoms such as drowsiness and depression may appear 3-4 days after the onset of the disease. Adenovirus infection in preschool and school-age children is usually mild, often with persistent high fever and cough, and neurological symptoms are not severe. Less severe cases usually have a gradual decrease in body temperature over 7-14 days, accompanied by other symptoms that begin to improve. In severe cases, after the 5th-6th day of illness, there are no obvious symptoms such as drowsiness and pale and grayish complexion. In terms of treatment, there are no particularly effective anti-adenoviral drugs available, and symptomatic supportive treatment is mainly given. In mild cases, the disease is mostly self-limiting and excessive treatment should be avoided. It is recommended that children should not eat spicy and stimulating food during the infection, avoid greasy and cold food, eat light and easy to digest, drink more water, take regular rest and rest, pay attention to warmth, do not blow the air conditioner and fan, and go to the pediatric department of a regular hospital promptly after the onset of the disease.
