Is yellow face in newborns jaundice?

The cause of a yellow face in a newborn may be jaundice, but it is also possible that the newborn’s own skin color is yellow and a bilirubin measurement is needed. Because jaundice usually starts on the face, a newborn with a yellow face may have yellow skin due to an increase in bilirubin levels in the body. A blood test or percutaneous jaundice test is needed to determine whether jaundice is occurring, and if the bilirubin exceeds the corresponding normal value, it may indicate jaundice. Some newborns may also have a yellow face due to their own yellowish skin color, which is usually not a cause for concern. If a newborn develops a yellow face, it is recommended to visit the hospital promptly for examination and diagnosis, and early and regular treatment.
