Numbness in the big toe caused by a bunion can be treated by wearing corrective braces, oral medications, and surgery. Numbness of the toe due to a bunion is caused by compression and pulling on the nerve. If the numbness is mild, it can be improved by wearing a corrective brace, such as a medial bunion brace, or by using a split toe pad between the first and second toes to restore the normal line of force of the bunion. In addition, numbness of the big toe can be treated with oral neurotrophic drugs such as methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin. If the bunion is severe, there are surgical options, such as orthopedic internal fixation. If a bunion causes numbness in the big toe, it is recommended that the patient go to the hospital for a complete examination and receive regular treatment.
