Can you use an electrosurgical knife after installing a pacemaker?

The use of an electric knife is not recommended after the installation of a pacemaker. Pacemakers are mainly used for the treatment of bradyarrhythmias, where the pacemaker sends out a constant pulse signal to drive the heart to beat. It is not recommended to use an electric knife during surgery for patients with pacemakers. The electric knife generates electric current, which may affect the function of the pacemaker and may even induce malignant arrhythmias; if it is necessary to use it, the function of the pacemaker needs to be adjusted according to the instruction manual in order to mitigate the interference of the electric knife. Patients with pacemakers who need to undergo surgery should talk to their cardiologists to decide whether or not they can be treated with an electrocautery knife.
