Coronary atherosclerosis, also known as coronary atherosclerotic heart disease, or coronary heart disease for short, is currently the most common chronic disease among cardiovascular diseases. Although it is not curable, it can be well prevented from progressing if it is treated promptly and effectively. As we age, basically everyone is likely to develop atherosclerosis, and if we can get early intervention to improve it, it will slow down the progression of the disease. If patients have coronary heart disease, it is recommended that they should take anti-platelet, anti-atherosclerotic, lipid-lowering and plaque stabilizing drugs, such as bye aspirin and atorvastatin, two major classes of drugs that are essential. It should also be combined with lifestyle interventions such as quitting smoking and alcohol, exercising to lose weight, and a low salt and low fat diet to better prevent the progression of coronary heart disease.
