What are the characteristics of adolescent-type idiopathic scoliosis?

  1, is the most common type of idiopathic scoliosis (about 3% of the population), but only a small percentage of patients (0.3%) have scoliosis that progresses to the point where treatment is required.  2, Female patients are predominant and have a greater likelihood of scoliosis progressing to the point of requiring treatment.  3, Thoracic curvature usually protrudes to the right (atypical forms of scoliosis suggest the need for MRI of the spine).       4, adolescent idiopathic scoliosis is rarely associated with pain.
