How to prevent infant gagging disorder?

Some infants suddenly stop suckling while breastfeeding normally, clench their hands into fists, straighten their legs, and exert their whole body as if they are doing exercises, until they stop after their face is red and ears turn red, and then eat milk as usual. The medical term for this phenomenon is infantile gagging disorder. The reason for infant gagging is that when the infant sucks milk, the air enters the lower part of the stomach while the milk is in the upper part of the stomach, and due to this special physiological phenomenon, it is naturally difficult for the air to escape and can only enter the small intestine. When the intestinal wall is stimulated by air pressure, it causes paroxysmal intestinal spasms and pain in the abdomen. The infant does not speak and only clenches his fist and stretches his legs to show this symptom. Infant gagging occurs not only when the child is suckling, but also in some severe cases during sleep, causing the infant to cry suddenly, look pale, tilt the head back, have cold hands and feet, and spit up milk frequently until the symptoms are relieved by increased bowel sounds or farting. The prognosis for infantile gagging is generally good, with symptoms gradually disappearing as the child grows older. However, for individual children with severe cases, it often causes gastrointestinal tract dysfunction and – a series of indigestion symptoms. Others may choke and cough, leading to foreign body pneumonia, which can seriously endanger the child’s health. How to prevent infant gagging? First, the infant should be fed in the standing or sitting position, never in the prone position; second, do not feed when the child is too hungry, the child is too hungry to suck the milk too hard, too fast, in the case of not much milk, easy to increase the amount of air entry; third, immediately after feeding the child up, gently pat the back, so that the air slowly escape; fourth, the frequent occurrence of infant air swallowing disease children can use the massage method. The method is to gently massage the baby’s abdomen from top to bottom for 10 to 20 minutes, so that the air is expelled from the large intestine. You can also put a hot wet towel on the baby’s abdomen, the air will soon be expelled from the child’s abdomen.
