Uterine fibroids have swum into the heart!

Uterine fibroids are a common benign tumor in gynecological diseases, but Ms. Liu’s fibroids grew backwards along the veins to the heart, spanning the pelvis, abdominal cavity and thoracic cavity. It took the combination of vascular surgery, gynecology and cardiothoracic surgery of the provincial people’s hospital to remove the danger. 1, uterine fibroids “swim” into the heart Ms. Liu is 47 years old, Zhuji people. Three years ago, she was examined for uterine fibroids and had a myomectomy in a local hospital. After the surgery, she recovered well and did not feel well, so she did not go to the hospital for a review. Recently, she started to have symptoms such as chest tightness and chest pain before she went to the local hospital for examination and was thought to be suffering from menopausal syndrome. However, when she went home, her heart area was still very uncomfortable, and Ms. Liu thought it might be a bad stomach, so she took it upon herself to eat stomach medicine. However, the heart failure symptoms of chest tightness, chest pain and difficulty in breathing continued to worsen, and her family felt that the situation was serious so they took her to the Provincial People’s Hospital for consultation. Dr. Jiang Jinsong, chief of the vascular surgery department, understood the patient’s condition and gave her relevant examinations, and concluded that the dyspnea was mainly caused by the smooth muscle tumor in the heart. The result of further examination surprised Chief Jiang Jinsong, “Although her pain was manifested in the heart, the lesion was in the uterus.” Dr. Hu Jinghui, attending gynecologist, explained that Ms. Liu was suffering from intraventricular smooth muscle disease, which is a very rare type of uterine fibroid. This kind of uterine fibroid grows into the heart mainly through the veins that carry blood to the heart and in the opposite direction. Due to the rapid growth of smooth fibroids, it compresses the normal function of the heart and brings a series of heart failure manifestations to the patient. The fibroids in Ms. Liu’s body were extensive and had invaded the heart, the inferior vena cava and the reproductive system, making the surgery difficult and risky. “The inferior vena cava is covered with fibroids, and the inferior vena cava is a zone that surgeons are reluctant to touch because the thin walls of the vessels in the inferior vena cava are not easily controlled once bleeding occurs during surgery. In addition, the condition of uterine fibroids causes the patient’s inferior vena cava to be particularly rich in collateral circulation, making it even less easy to control bleeding than normal.” Director Jiang Jinsong said. The fibroids removed were 40 centimeters long. The uterine fibroids belonged to obstetrics and gynecology, while the heart tumors were handled by cardiothoracic surgery, and the venous fibroids were handled by vascular surgery. So, the three seemingly “unrelated” departments of the Provincial People’s Hospital came together for Ms. Liu’s illness. The surgery lasted for more than four hours, and Director Jiang Jinsong, Dr. Hu Jinghui and Dr. Zhu Li, Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery, worked together to remove all the fibroids in Ms. Liu’s heart, inferior vena cava and reproductive system, and the tumor was 40 cm long. Hu Jinghui reminded that although the incidence of intraventricular smooth muscle tumor is relatively low, but because the clinical symptoms are not obvious, generally not easy to diagnose before surgery, so women should pay more attention to some changes in the body, discomfort should be timely to the regular hospital for examination, especially middle-aged women should do regular female routine examination, so as not to delay the disease.
