Constipation with Qi deficiency can be treated with medications such as Astragalus Soup. Clinical symptoms of constipation in qi deficiency sometimes include urge to pass stools, not dry stools, but still difficult to pass stools, shortness of breath due to sweating during defecation, fatigue after defecation (lack of mental energy), weakness (mental exhaustion, physical weakness), and a less florid complexion. It can be treated by adding or subtracting Astragalus Tang under doctor’s guidance. Commonly used medicines include Astragalus, Fireweed, Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, and White Honey. For those with excessive sweating and shortness of breath, add Bei Sha Shen, Maidong and Wu Wei Zi; for those with Qi deficiency and subluxation of prolapsed anus, reuse Astragalus, add Sheng Ma and Chai Hu; for those with kidney yang insufficiency (lack of yang energy in the kidneys), undried stools, difficulty in discharging the stools, coldness and pain in the abdomen, and lack of warmth of the limbs, add Radix Codonopsis Pseudostellariae, Radix et Rhizoma Gingeraea Lactiferae, Cistanches. If medication is needed, it should be identified by a doctor and standardized treatment should be followed.
