How do I manage a toothache emergency?

An oral examination with oral radiographs should be performed for a toothache emergency. If there is a very deep cavity in the crown with pain sensitive points at the bottom of probing, local anesthesia is needed immediately to grind open the pulp cavity, reduce the pressure in the pulp cavity, and place clove oil cotton balls for soothing analgesia. If the X-ray shows a low-density shadow area in the apical part, accompanied by obvious percussion pain, it is necessary to perform pulp opening and drainage, open the passage from the root canal opening to the apical hole, rinse thoroughly, and place camphorated phenol cotton balls for anti-inflammation. If the radiograph shows root fracture of the tooth, resulting in acute periodontal infection, the affected tooth can be extracted directly, and cephalosporin and nitroimidazole antibiotics can be applied to prevent infection.
