Sacral neuromodulation for pelvic floor hypertonic sexual dysfunction

The typical manifestations of pelvic floor hypertonic dysfunction belong to the category of functional disorders, which include persistent urinary frequency, urinary urgency, difficulty urinating, incomplete urination, and even urinary retention; anal and intestinal symptoms such as incomplete bowel movements and persistent constipation; perineal and pelvic floor pain, and vaginal cramp-like pain in women (such as inability to sit on soft sofas and complete sexual intercourse) often occur together. Over time, persistent pelvic floor pain can develop. The cause of these disorders is unknown and the onset is insidious and slow. The diagnosis and treatment are very difficult and most patients experience a long process of misdiagnosis. This leads to a serious reduction in quality of life, and even lightness of life and suicidal tendencies are not uncommon. At present, the Urological Control Group of Beijing Chaoyang Hospital, represented by Director Zhang Peng, has diagnosed several cases of pelvic floor hypertonic dysfunction, especially with urethral sphincter spasm as its distinctive feature, after a series of exhaustive functional urological specialty examinations, especially the application of imaging urodynamic examinations. After the permanent implantation of a bladder pacemaker, the patients were cured and their quality of life was significantly improved. Recently, Director Zhang Peng solved the persistent problem of a female patient with a 25-year history of the disease in only 1 week from the stage I test to the stage II permanent implantation, which set the fastest record for permanent implantation of pacemakers in China. This shows that with proper diagnosis and treatment, this persistent disease can hopefully be cured. We hope that more patients will learn about this technology and be able to be relieved of their pain soon.
