What surprised me even more was that someone actually gave her a recommendation to use a certain herbal medicine under my name. I guess I was taken advantage of and I had to write something for such a situation. My answer is straightforward: there is no medicine that has been proven effective for the long-term treatment of uterine fibroids. First, to clarify a concept, I am talking about the existence of a drug that can control or even cure uterine fibroids in the long term. I do not deny that some drugs are used for preoperative management. But so far, there is no medication that is internationally recognized for long-term treatment of uterine fibroids. Some drugs, such as GnRH-a (Noread, Inhibiton, etc.), Mifepristone, SERM can be used for pre-surgical management of fibroids or for perimenopausal management. However, they are limited to short-term applications, usually no more than 3 months. After pretreatment, the fibroids are reduced in size and then surgical intervention is performed. The purpose of this is to improve the chances of minimally invasive surgery, but it has also been reported in the literature that minimally invasive surgery for fibroids after such treatment increases the chance of fibroid leakage, so the need for pretreatment should be decided specifically according to the clinical situation. Secondly, let’s go back to the domestic mess. Fibroids are a common disease that may be visible in 1/3 of women, not many of them have symptoms, and most of them will not need to be treated and regular checkups and observation will be enough. However, I understand the mentality of our patients, most of whom have the disease and always hope that they can solve the problem without surgery and some medicine. It so happens that such a mentality is exploited by some manufacturers, so there are so many Chinese medicine preparations to treat fibroids in China. You have to look at the information provided by the manufacturers, each and every one of them is effective, or there is no way to promote it, anyway, the people eat this drug, and will not eat any major problems, chemical money, they do not care how your final results, anyway, most of the final discontinuation of the drug. Then, I think we need to explain how to prove that a drug is effective or not, not the manufacturer’s word, not a doctor’s word, not a patient said I ate the drug fibroids do not grow even, we need to look at the results of clinical randomized controlled studies. What is a randomized controlled study (RCT, randomized controll trial), let’s say there are 200 patients, randomly divided into 2 groups, one group of patients take the drug, one group of patients eat and the drug looks exactly the same placebo, and then compare the final results to see if there is a difference between the two groups, this is the international gold standard for drugs and clinical interventions are effective (see the explanation below), the U.S. FDA to pass a drug to be marketed, it is necessary to have the results of the RCT study. But our Chinese FDA does not, as long as you have the results of an observational study, you are on the market, how does the observation come? The manufacturers look for doctors to do clinical observation, and naturally they want to serve the manufacturers, so most of the things written are effective, and naturally they are listed, but such results are not recognized by international colleagues, and doctors who believe in science will not believe, or Chinese medicine will have to rewrite the status quo of the treatment of uterine fibroids around the world. I don’t believe in such results, I believe in the results of randomized controlled studies, no, don’t use them. I’m not opposed to Chinese medicine, but I have to come up with convincing data, but unfortunately, there are no RCT results! That’s why Dr. Gong I never prescribe Chinese medicine for fibroids mess. As a patient, you also need to develop the ability to judge right from wrong. It doesn’t matter if you have a disease like fibroids, you need to have a good attitude, most fibroids can be checked regularly, don’t have to find a medicine to cure it because no medicine has been proven to be effective for long-term treatment of fibroids, don’t spend money looking for a crime. It is very rare that you will need surgical intervention after all, so don’t be taken advantage of. It is important to learn to recognize the truth in the internet era.
