The invisible killer of abdominal aortic aneurysms

Abdominal aortic aneurysm is an aggressive disease that, if left untreated, can often result in rapid death of the patient due to rupture of the aneurysm. What is even more frightening is that most patients have no symptoms at all and are often discovered by chance during physical examinations. Patient Liu, who was admitted to our general surgery department for acute appendicitis, was accidentally found to have an abdominal aortic aneurysm at the same time during the preoperative examination. The patient, however, was unaware of his condition. For further consultation and treatment, he was later referred to our department. The aneurysm seen during surgery: After careful preoperative preparation, we performed “abdominal aortic replacement”, in which an artificial large vessel was replaced and the wall of his own vessel was embedded with another layer to ensure the safety of the operation. The whole operation lasted 3 hours and the patient returned to the ward safely after the operation. Less than half a month after the operation, the patient recovered and was discharged from the hospital. We say that Liu was lucky, but at the same time, there are many people who are unfortunate, and they failed to find out that they were suffering from such a dangerous disease until they died suddenly. Therefore, in today’s advanced medical science, everyone should be alert to their subtle symptoms, early detection, early treatment, perhaps the next time you save, is your own life.
