Tears in baby’s eyes are a common problem for many parents. There are many common causes of tears, including conjunctivitis, keratitis, inverted eyelashes, dacryocystitis, or narrowing of the tear ducts. Depending on the cause, the treatment may vary. Conservative treatments, topical medications and surgery are available. If your baby’s eyes are watering because of conjunctival or corneal inflammation, the main treatment is to use topical anti-inflammatory eye drops, such as tobramycin drops and erythromycin eye ointment, etc. Of course, if you consider that there is a viral factor present, you can use antiviral eye drops, such as acyclovir eye drops, or ophthalmic gel with ganciclovir. If your baby’s eyes are watering because of inverted eyelashes, you can choose conservative treatment or surgical treatment according to the situation. If the number of eyelashes touching the cornea is small, you can observe for a while, but if the number is large and combined with eyelid entropion, which causes corneal epithelial damage, you need to have surgical treatment as soon as possible. If your baby’s eyes are watering because of dacryocystitis or narrowing of the tear ducts, you can use topical antibiotic ophthalmic solution to flush the tear ducts in the early period, and then you can use surgical treatments for the tear ducts, such as tear duct implantation and tear duct probing.
