How to Rehabilitate Hereditary Cerebellar Ataxia

Rehabilitation training for hereditary cerebellar ataxia mainly includes balance and stability training, muscle strength training and proprioceptive training. Hereditary ataxia is a group of chronic, progressive, cerebellar ataxia as the characteristics of the genetic disease, there is no effective treatment, only symptomatic drug treatment, supplemented by rehabilitation training, to further alleviate the symptoms. Hereditary ataxia patients can carry out the following rehabilitation training: 1. Balance stability training: patients with hereditary cerebellar ataxia are prone to decreased balance stability, which affects their walking posture, and they need to carry out balance stability training, such as activating the body’s balance stability by standing on a balance board. 2. Muscle strength training: patients with hereditary cerebellar ataxia may have decreased muscle strength of the limbs, and need to carry out muscle strength training, such as isometric and isotonic contraction of the limbs to improve muscle strength. 3. Proprioceptive training: patients with hereditary cerebellar ataxia are prone to proprioceptive disorders and need proprioceptive training, such as stimulating the body’s proprioception by standing on foam cushions to promote the recovery of motor function. Hereditary cerebellar ataxia usually cannot be fully recovered, and needs to be treated by means of rehabilitation therapy under the guidance of a specialized doctor to improve the function as much as possible and enhance the patient’s quality of life.
