Coronavirus infections may present with a dry and sore throat, but a dry and sore throat is not necessarily caused by a coronavirus infection, it can also be caused by the common cold, influenza, pharyngitis, etc.
There are many diseases that cause dry and sore throat, such as common cold, influenza, coronavirus infection, pharyngitis, etc. Therefore, dry and sore throat is not a symptom specific to the new coronavirus infection, and therefore the diagnosis of coronavirus infection cannot be confirmed based on this symptom.
For people with a history of suspected epidemiologic exposure, the possibility of coronavirus infection should be suspected if symptoms such as fever and dry and sore throat are present. Prompt local fever clinic visits are usually required for testing of nucleic acids, and if the test is positive, it may be a coronavirus infection.
